Culinary Dropout is opening a two-level, 9,000-square-foot restaurant at The Bowl at Ballantyne on November 4, with seating for close to 300 people, a rooftop patio and live music booked for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The American gastropub, known for classic comfort food and craft cocktails, will mark its debut with a portion of opening-day sales donated to Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital.

The new location at 15220 Bowl St. will serve lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, according to The Charlotte Observer, which first reported the opening date and menu details. The ground floor houses the main dining room, while the upstairs area opens onto the rooftop patio. Charlotte Observer food writer Heidi Finley reported that the restaurant will be decorated with photography, artwork and cultural references inspired by the Charlotte area, including a sculptural Flying V guitar and vintage-inspired gear cases filled with music memorabilia.

The menu leans into Culinary Dropout's signature indulgence: barbecue pork nachos, hot wings, soft pretzels with provolone fondue, 36-hour pork ribs, sushi and the M.A.C. double cheeseburger are all on offer, per the same report. The bar program includes over a dozen handcrafted cocktails, mocktails, local craft beer and a curated wine list. Live music continues into the weekend with Saturday and Sunday brunch sets and DJ sets on Saturdays.

A Second Charlotte Outpost for the Phoenix Chain

This marks Culinary Dropout's second Charlotte location, following its October 2023 debut in South End, where the brand opened a 13,312-square-foot restaurant on the ground floor of Vantage South End at 1120 S. Tryon St., according to the Charlotte Business Journal. The Ballantyne restaurant is one of 18 other Culinary Dropout locations nationwide, part of Phoenix-based Fox Restaurant Concepts, led by James Beard-nominated chef and restaurateur Sam Fox.

Fox Restaurant Concepts operates under the financial backing of The Cheesecake Factory, which bought a majority stake in the company for $353 million in 2019. Hoodline previously covered the corporate lineage behind the brand when Tempe's Filthy Animal earned a top honor from Yelp.

Completing a Fully Leased Retail Hub

Culinary Dropout and Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza are the final two Phase One openings at The Bowl at Ballantyne, a 20-acre mixed-use development whose 70,000 square feet of Phase One retail space reached 100% leased status across 19 tenants in early 2026, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. The restaurant joins other tenants at The Bowl, including anchor Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, which occupies a 14,000-square-foot space with a one-acre outdoor biergarten.

The Bowl is part of the broader Ballantyne Reimagined redevelopment, part of a wider transformation of Ballantyne that includes a former private golf course and a 535-acre corporate park. The development includes a six-acre public park.

Momentum Keeps Building Around the Dining Hub

Commercial activity around the site has accelerated in recent days, with Charlotte's first Wegmans grocery store opening Wednesday at 11550 North Community House Road, less than half a mile from Culinary Dropout's new home, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

With nearly 300 seats and a built-in event calendar of live music and brunch DJ sets, the Ballantyne location is positioned to tap into the same foot traffic driving growth across the broader district, which Hoodline covered in September when the Panthers hosted a free pep rally at The Bowl.
