More than a year and a half after William Williams was gunned down outside a residential building in Southeast Washington, investigators are still hunting for whoever pulled the trigger — and they've just released surveillance video hoping someone recognizes what happened that night. The 37-year-old Southeast D.C. resident was shot and killed on February 16, 2025, in the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, and the case remains unsolved.
Officers were called to the scene at around 10 p.m. that Sunday, responding to a shooting at a residential building in the block, according to WJLA. They found Williams suffering from gunshot wounds, and despite lifesaving efforts on scene, he died there. The Metropolitan Police Department says it is seeking the public's assistance in gathering information regarding the homicide.
New Video Surfaces in Long-Running Case
D.C. police have now released surveillance video as part of the effort to identify the person responsible for Williams's death, according to WJLA. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, and the department has provided the phone number 202-727-9099 for tips, along with the text tip line 50411.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, per the earlier WJLA report, and police have not announced any arrest in the case. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible.
Community Still Waiting for Answers
Nineteen months after Williams was killed on Knox Place, his case sits among the open homicide files the Metropolitan Police Department continues to track citywide. For now, the video release is the latest development in a case that has otherwise moved slowly, with investigators leaning on the public to fill in what happened that Sunday night.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at the number above. The reward offer stands as an incentive for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has knowledge of who was involved to speak up.
