A 49-year-old man who told police he was a Department of Homeland Security officer has been indicted on charges including aggravated assault after allegedly shooting his upstairs neighbor during a late-night noise dispute at a Decatur apartment complex. Quadrus Wilson, who lives in Marietta, was indicted by a DeKalb County grand jury on October 22, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office.
Wilson faces two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, two counts of possessing a firearm during a felony, first-degree criminal damage to property, terroristic threats and criminal trespass, according to 11Alive. The charges stem from a shooting at an apartment complex on Treecrest Parkway in unincorporated Decatur that DeKalb County police officers responded to just after 2:30 a.m. on July 27.
A Birthday Visit That Turned Violent
According to the station's report, Wilson had gone to a family member's apartment that night to celebrate his birthday, where he got into an argument with his relative's boyfriend. The relative reportedly barricaded the door to keep him out. Wilson later returned to his relative's apartment, banging on the door and shouting “police.” An upstairs neighbor said he heard an hour-long commotion.
That neighbor eventually opened his own front door while armed with a rifle and called out to ask about the noise, per the same account. Investigators said Wilson then confronted the neighbor with his gun drawn, identifying himself as a police officer and ordering him to drop his firearm. The neighbor retreated back inside and closed his door, which remained slightly cracked open.
Shots Fired, Then a Return Visit
Shots Fired, Then a Return Visit Police said Wilson is accused of forcing the neighbor's door open and firing several shots into the apartment, striking the man in the right arm.
Wilson told responding officers he was a Department of Homeland Security officer and remained at the scene, where officers took him into custody at the DeKalb County jail. He remains in custody without bond, per the article.
