San Antonio police have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run on the city's Northeast Side as 70-year-old Ricky Duane Williams, and the driver who struck him remains at large. Officers found Williams dead in the road after someone reported a body near the 4600 block of Farm-to-Market 78, near Springfield Road, before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Williams was hit by a vehicle while walking on FM 78, according to Yahoo News, which reported that he died at the scene from blunt-force injuries, per the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office. Williams' driver remained unidentified, and the time of the incident was unknown.
The driver failed to stop and render aid at the time of the crash, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The San Antonio Police Department reported that this driver remains unidentified, with no suspect or vehicle description released as the investigation continues.
Conflicting Details About the Victim's Age
Not every early report agrees on who exactly was found dead on FM 78. While SAPD's identification places Williams at 70 years old, News 4 San Antonio initially described the victim only as a man believed to be between 50 and 60 years old. That station reported the crash was called in at about 10:18 p.m. on Saturday, and said the investigation remained active and ongoing, with information subject to change.
Fatal pedestrian hit-and-runs have surfaced repeatedly in San Antonio in recent memory. KENS 5 separately reported a case in which a man was killed on an east-side street before the suspect fled the scene.
Investigation Remains Open
The crash remains under investigation, and San Antonio police have not said whether any leads have developed since Williams was identified. Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle involved is asked to contact police, as investigators continue working to track down who left Williams dead on the roadway and drove away.
