A 21-year-old Elgin man is behind bars in Kane County, facing 11 felony charges nearly three months after a woman was shot on Wilson Street. Eduardo G. Rodriguez was arrested on Monday in connection with the Aug. 3 shooting, and the list of allegations against him includes armed violence and aggravated battery with a firearm.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Rodriguez lives in the 300 block of McClure Avenue in Elgin. He is being held at the Kane County jail while he awaits a future court date. The report does not say when that date is.
The Charges Against Rodriguez
The Tribune's report lists a mix of violent-crime and weapons counts. Beyond armed violence and aggravated battery with a firearm, Rodriguez is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He also faces counts for unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, firearm possession without a FOID card, and criminal damage to property.
Illinois law spells out several of those offenses in detail. The state's armed violence statute sits in a separate article of the criminal code, while the aggravated battery provision covers the firearm-related injury allegation. Charges are accusations, and no court has ruled on them.
What Police Said in August
The shooting itself drew a quick response on the night it happened. As the Kane County Chronicle reported, police were sent to the 700 block of Wilson Street around 10:45 p.m. on reports of shots fired. Officers found the woman at the scene with a gunshot wound and took her to a hospital. Her injuries were described as not life-threatening, according to authorities.
Detectives took over from there. Per the Chicago Tribune's earlier coverage, detectives from the Special Investigations Group and Major Investigations Division handled the investigation.
Where Exactly Did It Happen?
One detail is murky: the location of the shooting. The Chronicle's August report placed the 700 block of Wilson Street in Elgin, while the Tribune's recent charging story describes the same block as being in Aurora. Neither account resolves the discrepancy, so it remains unclear which city's address is correct.
Other basics are still missing from the public record. The woman has not been identified, and the reports do not describe a motive, the weapon, or any relationship between her and Rodriguez. No bond amount or attorney information has been made public, either.
