Planning a visit

The main FOG Design+Art fair is scheduled for Jan. 21–23, 2027, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; general admission is priced from $5 to $45, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A preview gala is set for Jan. 20, 5–10 p.m., with tickets ranging from $300 to $25,000, the Chronicle reported. The gala benefits the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; SFMOMA’s event information says proceeds support exhibitions and education programs serving more than 60,000 students, teachers and families annually. The Chronicle named Kaitlyn Krieger, Mike Krieger, Jennifer Montana and Joe Montana as honorary chairs.

Exhibitors and the fair’s layout

At its 13th edition, FOG Design+Art will expand into Pier 2 at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, with space for more than 75 galleries from the Bay Area and beyond, the Chronicle reported. The FOG Focus section for emerging galleries will be on Pier 2’s second floor and include 15 first-time exhibitors. The Chronicle named Los Angeles galleries Hoffman Donahue and Dominique Porter Gallery, and app-based gallery Fair Warning, among the participants.

Fort Mason’s history and getting there

Fort Mason’s role has changed substantially: the National Park Service describes it as a former Pacific gateway for soldiers from the late 19th century through World War II, now home to nonprofit museums, theater groups and arts organizations. The agency’s Fort Mason history tour says that during the 45 months of World War II, more than 1.6 million military personnel and over 23.5 million ship tons of material left its docks. For transit, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency lists the 49 Van Ness/Mission as operating between City College and Fort Mason, and the 43 Masonic as running between the Excelsior and Fort Mason.

Director Sydney Blumenkranz told the Chronicle that the 2027 applicant pool was the largest in the fair’s history. The paper reported that an official exhibitor selection committee will choose galleries, replacing the previous steering-committee process.

A theater for FOG Talks

The 437-seat Cowell Theater in Pier 2 will host FOG Talks, the fair’s lecture and presentation program, the Chronicle reported. The series has drawn full audiences in temporary tents in recent years, and Blumenkranz told the paper that moving to the theater had been under consideration for some time. The Chronicle also reported that artist Carrie Mae Weems’ 2025 appearance drew a crowd beyond the tented area. Details of the 2027 talks and other events will be announced later.
