A Ring camera alert received by a witness at work is what cracked this case open. Jackson police arrested six people, including four juveniles and two adult men, after officers responded to a report of people entering a vacant home on Otis Street in east Jackson at around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, and found the group armed with three firearms, two of which had been reported stolen.

According to WREG, a witness received Ring camera alerts while at work and contacted authorities, providing officers with video footage showing individuals jumping a fence and entering the vacant house. That tip sent officers to the scene, where they found all six people still inside.

Officers discovered three firearms at the scene, and two of them had been reported stolen by an unspecified party, per police. Jackson police charged the six suspects with aggravated burglary, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of theft of property. The Jackson Police Department said the six were arrested after being accused of illegally entering a vacant residence while armed with weapons.

Part of a Busier-Than-Usual Stretch for Jackson Police

The Otis Street arrests land in the middle of a notably active couple of weeks for firearm-related cases in Jackson. Just four days earlier, on Oct. 20, Jackson patrol officers detained five juveniles during a search for burglary suspects and recovered three firearms, according to a report from wbbjtv.com. That group, found near Prospect Avenue, included three 16-year-olds, one 15-year-old and one 17-year-old, and all five were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center on various charges, including weapons violations.

The firearms recovered in that case were identified as a Draco 7.62x39 firearm, a Springfield XD 9mm handgun and an AR-style 5.56 pistol, the same outlet reported. Separately, the Jackson Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Unit recovered a combined 18 firearms and ammunition during two investigations conducted over two weeks, according to a separate wbbjtv.com report.

Machine Gun Conversions Among the Other Recoveries

Those two Gang Enforcement Unit searches turned up some particularly alarming finds. On Oct. 15, investigators recovered seven firearms and ammunition during a search of a West Jackson residence, including one firearm illegally converted into a fully automatic machine gun. Then on Oct. 23, investigators recovered 11 firearms and ammunition during a search of a North Jackson residence, two of which had also been illegally converted into fully automatic machine guns.

No booking details, bond information or court dates for the six suspects arrested at the Otis Street home have been released. The identities and specific charges assigned to each of the six individually have not been made public.
