Atlanta is waking Sunday to cloudy skies and temperatures near 61 degrees, with a mostly cloudy day ahead and a high near 72. A few showers are possible, but the rain chance remains low and little accumulation is expected across the city.
Gusty Sunday Winds Fade After Dark
The bigger weather story for Sunday is wind, with southwest breezes of 10 to 15 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph across much of the area during the afternoon. The National Weather Service says lingering showers should be focused mainly across north and eastern Georgia as post-tropical cyclone Isaias moves farther northeast.
That is a notable comedown from Saturday's rougher setup, when Atlanta faced threats from heavy rain, flooding, tornadoes and stronger winds, as described in Hoodline's earlier forecast. Sunday night should turn mostly clear, with a low around 60 and west winds near 10 mph, including gusts up to 20 mph.
Sunshine And Summerlike Heat Return
Monday brings a sharp reset for the holiday, with sunny skies and a high near 83. The warmup continues Tuesday through Thursday, when Atlanta is expected to reach 86, 87 and 88 degrees under sunny skies, while overnight lows stay mostly in the low to mid-60s.
Friday remains sunny and warm near 84 degrees, with no rain expected. A possible strong cold front could bring a change in the weather next weekend.
For Atlanta, Sunday is the transition day: hold onto the patio umbrella during the gustier afternoon, then enjoy a long stretch of dry, summery weather. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the city in the current forecast.
