Chicago is waking up Saturday to mostly clear skies and temperatures around 41 degrees, with a chilly start giving way to a sunnier afternoon. A slight chance of rain showers could linger before 8 a.m., but the rest of the day should be dry with a high near 56. Northwest winds will diminish and turn southwest later Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service Chicago says the wider region is facing frost and freeze concerns in colder areas, especially east of Interstate 55 and into northwest Indiana. Chicago itself should stay milder, but Saturday night will still turn sharply colder, with a clear sky and a low around 42.
Frost Risk Builds Outside The Urban Core
Frost advisories are in effect for parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana early Sunday, where temperatures may fall into the 30s away from the city’s urban heat island. Chicago neighborhoods should avoid the coldest readings, although gardeners and anyone with exposed plants should pay attention to conditions just beyond the city.
Sunny Skies Bring A Weeklong Warmup
Sunday brings sunshine and a high near 62, though southwest winds could reach 25 mph in gusts. Monday climbs to about 66, followed by highs largely in the 70s Tuesday through Saturday.
Thursday and Friday look like the warmest stretch, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 72. It is a notably gentler turn from the wind-whipped conditions Hoodline reported Friday, with almost no rain expected through the workweek.
