Living Well Cancer Resources provides free support to people affected by cancer, including wigs, art activities and counseling for families. The organization marked its 20th anniversary in September 2025 and had served nearly 380,000 visitors, according to the Kane County Chronicle.
Cancer incidence in Kane County
For 2016-2020, Kane County recorded 11,017 cancer cases, with an average annual age-adjusted incidence rate of 455.8 per 100,000, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The county figure documents local cancer incidence, but by itself does not show how Kane County compares with Illinois overall or measure demand for support services.
Fundraising through a new outdoor event
Living Well Cancer Resources was the beneficiary of the Festival of Arts and Crafts at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva. The first-time outdoor event featured 140 booths selling items including doll clothes, artwork, jewelry and food, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The fundraiser honored Kim Grau’s late mother, Donna Hansen, who received services from Living Well during cancer treatment. Grau told the Tribune that the ballpark gave Step by Step Promotions, which usually stages indoor shows, a chance to try an outdoor format with music. The report said the organizer required vendors to sell items handmade in the United States. Candy Domke-Hochberg, Living Well’s operations administrator, said such events can introduce the nonprofit to people unfamiliar with its work; the Tribune reported that donations fund its services.
Admission and activities
General admission was $5, children 11 and younger could enter free, and parking was free. The event listing from the Kane County Cougars also advertised live music during the festival.
