Glendale police have issued a Silver Alert for 64-year-old Anthony Gardner, who disappeared after leaving a Milwaukee hospital earlier this month and never made it back to the group home where he lives. He was last seen wearing a Green Bay Packers fleece, red-and-black checkered pajamas and white tennis shoes, a combination that makes him easy to picture but, so far, hard to find.
According to WISN, Gardner was last seen on October 2 leaving Aurora Sinai Hospital after being transported there. Officials told the station he left the hospital around 2:30 a.m. and headed to his group home at Wisconsin Community Services to pick up a check, but he never returned. A separate search-result snippet referencing the same WISN report instead placed his departure from the hospital around 1 a.m., a detail that conflicts with the station's published account.
Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, law enforcement was informed that Gardner walked away from Aurora Sinai Hospital on October 2 and was later observed at Wisconsin Community Services on West Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee. Gardner is described as a 6-foot-1-inch man weighing around 260 pounds, with brown eyes and a short black beard, the newspaper reports.
What a Silver Alert Means in Wisconsin
A Silver Alert is an emergency public notification about at-risk individuals who are missing, and Wisconsin's criteria are specific. The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the missing person must be 60 or older and believed to have Alzheimer's, dementia or another permanent cognitive impairment that poses a threat to their health and safety.
The department's crime alert program notes that a Silver Alert request must be made within 72 hours of a person's disappearance. The statewide program was written into law effective August 1, 2014, and alerts can go out through email, text messages, Wisconsin Lottery terminals and Wireless Emergency Alerts, according to the same agency's Silver Alert program page.
How to Help
Anyone with information on Gardner's whereabouts is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department at 414-228-1753. No further updates on his condition or location have been reported.
