A man walked into a Loop 7-Eleven on Monday night, pointed a gun at a 26-year-old and left two men wounded before running off down Adams Street. The shooting happened at about 9:45 p.m. in the first block of East Adams Street, and both victims were taken to a hospital.

Chicago police say the suspect entered the store and pointed the gun at the 26-year-old man, according to ABC7 Chicago. After a brief physical altercation, the gunman shot the man several times and fled eastbound on Adams Street.

The 26-year-old was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition. A 23-year-old man who was inside the store at the time suffered a graze wound to the foot, and he was also taken to Northwestern Memorial and listed in fair condition.

Detectives Investigate Shooting

Area Three detectives are investigating the shooting.

This is not the first time gunfire has erupted at a Loop 7-Eleven on Adams Street. On March 13, 2026, a man was shot and critically injured during a robbery at a 7-Eleven in the Loop, according to CBS News Chicago. That incident happened around 11:50 p.m. at a convenience store in the 100 block of West Adams, and the victim was a 32-year-old man shot multiple times.

A separate account from NBC Chicago described a 31-year-old man in critical condition after being shot following a convenience-store robbery in the Loop on Friday night. The two reports differ on details such as the victim's age and the time, and nothing in the reporting ties that Friday shooting to Monday's.

An Earlier Case Ended in Charges

Back on March 13, police said a man took items from the shelves of a 7-Eleven in the 100 block of West Adams Street and later shot a 31-year-old man who confronted him, per FOX 32 Chicago. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Jaquell Hayes, 30, of Oak Lawn, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder in that shooting. That case is a different event from Monday's.

Citywide Numbers Have Been Trending Down

The Loop incidents come as city data points to fewer shootings overall. Chicago recorded 141 shooting incidents and 198 shooting victims in August, down nearly 20% and 18% from August 2025, according to WTTW News.

The same report says 1,264 people had been shot in the city through the first eight months of 2026, about 1% fewer than in the same period last year. It also notes robberies were down 23% year-to-date.
