A north Phoenix pain clinic has shut its doors indefinitely after a violent hailstorm punched through its roof, flooded the building and wrecked medical equipment inside. Sun Pain Management says baseball-sized hail tore through the structure in roughly 15 minutes, leaving staff scrambling to redirect patients elsewhere while the facility awaits major repairs.

Clinic staff described the damage as sudden and severe, telling FOX 10 Phoenix they experienced “baseball-sized hail that came out of nowhere — and in about 15 minutes, tore through our roof and created intense flooding.” The downpour that followed soaked the interior, knocked ceiling tiles loose and damaged equipment used to treat patients, forcing the location to temporarily close, according to the station's report.

On its website, Sun Pain Management confirmed the north Phoenix location is closed until further notice because of what it called significant damage from the severe hailstorm, per Sun Pain Management. The practice said it is reaching out directly to affected patients to coordinate care at its Goodyear and Surprise clinics, or through virtual appointments, while the north Phoenix site remains offline.

Repair Bill Could Climb Well Past Initial Roof Estimate

The financial toll is already significant before any final numbers are in. Staff told the same outlet that the initial quote for the roof alone came in around $300,000, a figure that does not include separate damage to air-conditioning units and other systems inside the building, per the station's report.

The damage wasn't confined to the roof. Vehicles parked outside the clinic were also battered, with staff describing dents across rooftops and cracked windshields from the hail, according to the same account.

Storm Slammed the Valley With Golf-Ball-Sized Hail

The clinic's damage traces back to a severe storm system that rolled through metro Phoenix. A storm that hit the area produced hail the size of golf balls and damaged vehicle windshields across the Valley, according to Insurance Journal. North Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe and Mesa were among the communities that felt the worst of the hail, the outlet reported, and winds up to 60 mph knocked down trees across the metro area.

The storm system moved through northern and central Arizona, battering homes and vehicles with golf-ball-sized hail and powerful wind gusts, according to NBC News. The outlet also noted that tornado watches were issued for multiple areas of the state — the first such watches in Arizona since October 2010.

Body Shops Swamped as Vehicle Damage Piles Up

The clinic isn't alone in dealing with the storm's aftermath. Some vehicles across the Valley sustained damage severe enough that they had to be towed to repair shops rather than driven in, according to AZFamily. One Stop Body and Paint owner Michael Taplashvili told 12News that a single hail-damaged car can take 20 to 100 labor hours to fix, and that body shops are now seeing a flood of customers seeking repairs.

Storms of this scale aren't new to the region, though they remain costly when they hit. Insurance Journal noted the metro has weathered multiple severe storms over the past year, including one in November 2025 that brought hail to the West Valley, and pointed back to October 2010, when successive Phoenix hailstorms caused an estimated $2.7 billion in insured losses.

For now, Sun Pain Management's north Phoenix patients are left finding care at the practice's other Valley locations while the clinic works through repairs with no confirmed timeline for reopening.
