Miami woke to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures around 81 degrees Tuesday, with afternoon storm chances increasing through midweek. The high should reach 88 degrees, but the heat index may climb to 100 as South Florida gets one more hot, muggy day before a wetter midweek pattern settles in.
Showers and thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a 30% chance of rain and south winds between 2 and 9 mph. Most of the day should stay dry, but any storm that forms could bring a quick heavy downpour, lightning and gusty, shifting winds.
Rain Chances Rise Wednesday And Thursday
Wednesday is expected to bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Thursday looks wetter still, with enhanced rain chances. The National Weather Service in Miami-South Florida says deeper tropical moisture could lead to multiple rounds of heavy rain, especially across the east coast metro area; the agency's latest forecast discussion notes an increased potential for localized flooding.
The wetter stretch is a meaningful update from Hoodline's Monday forecast, which highlighted Tuesday as a better outdoor window before rain chances rose later in the week. Miami residents should allow extra time for commutes Wednesday and Thursday and avoid low-lying streets if storms repeatedly pass over the same neighborhoods.
King Tides Could Add Coastal Flooding
Minor coastal flooding could begin as early as midweek during high-tide cycles and continue through the weekend, according to the forecast. Another round of King Tides could push water onto vulnerable coastal roads and properties even without a major storm.
Beach conditions may also become more challenging as an offshore swell develops and rip-current risk increases later in the week, particularly north toward Palm Beach County. Anyone heading to the beach should check updated conditions, swim near a lifeguard and leave the water when thunder is nearby.
Weekend Heat Sticks Around
Friday and Saturday could bring highs in the upper 80s to around 90, with higher-end rain chances. A drier pattern is possible late in the weekend and early the following week.
The forecast offers little relief from humidity even when rain chances rise.
