A locally organized banner event brought hundreds to Ocean Beach on Saturday as part of the fourth No Kings day of action.
At Stairwell 17, participants arranged themselves to spell NO KINGS, according to Reuters.
A Nationwide Push Tied to Early Voting
The gathering was organized by Human Banner-SF, which had scheduled the Ocean Beach event for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Stairwell 17, per the group's own announcement on its website. The event fit into a much larger day of action: the San Francisco Chronicle reports that thousands of people mobilized around the Bay Area and across the country for the fourth No Kings day of action, this time with an emphasis on voting ahead of the election.
That nationwide framing was deliberate. NPR reports that the coalition behind the nationwide anti-Trump protests shifted its strategy for the weekend to focus on voter turnout, branding the effort No Kings: Vote Early. Events were held in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to the Chronicle, and NPR notes that thousands of people attended rallies, marches and community gatherings nationwide as part of the push.
Voting Beyond the Rally
Voter participation was one of the gathering's themes.
The No Kings coalition behind the day of action comprises hundreds of partner organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Black Voters Matter, NPR reports.
Official Ballot Return Options
San Francisco voters could use official ballot drop boxes around the clock during the final weeks of the election period: according to the San Francisco Department of Elections, boxes would be open 24/7 beginning October 5 through Election Day, November 3, at 8 p.m.
Building on a Year of Beach Demonstrations
KRON4 reported that more than 1,000 people gathered at Ocean Beach in October 2025 for a human-banner demonstration. Separately, Indivisible SF identifies its second No Kings action as October 18, 2025, at Sue Bierman Park, a different event. Human Banner-SF also organized smaller gatherings in between, including a July 25, 2026, event at which 708 people turned out for a separate National Day of Action banner, according to the group's tally.
Earlier Actions Took Different Forms
A prior No Kings action used a city-march format: Women's March San Francisco listed a June 14, 2025, march planned by Indivisible SF and 50501SF from Dolores Park to Civic Center Plaza.
Human Banner-SF's July tally of 708 was higher than the hundreds reported at Saturday's gathering. No independently confirmed attendance figure for the October 17 event was available. Organizers hope the day will translate into ballots cast rather than just photos taken from the sky.
