A first-grade student jumped from a second-story window at Indian Hill Primary School on Tuesday, according to a message sent to families by principal Cash Hayden. The student was still mobile and communicative when emergency crews arrived and was transported for a medical evaluation, Hayden said. By Wednesday, the student had returned to classes.
Details of what happened remain limited. According to wcpo.com, it is currently not known what the student's intentions were, and the school district said it would not comment on the student or situation any further. The same report notes that the student's return to classes came just a day after the fall.
What the Principal Told Families
In his message, Hayden said all students were safe following the incident and that the student's parents had been notified, according to the WLWT report on the letter. The incident occurred as half-day kindergarten students were being released from the primary school, per the same account. Hayden said the school is working with emergency responders and assessing the circumstances, including possible student-safety measures going forward.
Emergency responders who assisted included the Indian Hill Rangers and the Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire Department, per the letter cited in WLWT's reporting. The school also said it would provide counselors for any students who witnessed the incident or who need someone to talk to about it.
Unanswered Questions Remain
Beyond the principal's statement, little else has been made public about the circumstances of the fall, including whether the window was open or whether a teacher or staff member was supervising the student. The district's decision to withhold further comment leaves those questions unresolved for now, though officials have confirmed the student was back in school within a day of the incident.
