New Orleans starts Friday with clear skies and temperatures near 75 degrees, but the calm opening will give way to a blustery afternoon. Winds will be blustery, with gusts near 40 mph in New Orleans, while rain showers become possible after 3 p.m.
Wind And Coastal Flooding Take Center Stage
The National Weather Service says Hurricane Isaias is expected to reach the north-central Gulf Coast Friday evening, bringing the biggest local concerns from strong winds, rising water and scattered showers. Coastal flooding remains a concern for parts of the New Orleans area.
Water levels could run 1 to 3 feet above normally dry ground during high-tide cycles, with flooding possible in some lots, parks and roads. Isolated road closures are possible, so drivers should allow extra time, avoid barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth.
Showers Arrive Late Friday
Friday's high is expected to reach about 80 degrees. The chance of rain rises late Friday afternoon, with a 30% chance of showers.
Friday night will have a low of 63 to 68 degrees, with north winds gusting around 35 mph.
Sunny Weekend Offers A Quick Reset
Saturday may bring lingering rain or clouds, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, even as the rain threat fades.
The warm pattern continues into next week, with highs mainly in the low to mid-80s.
