Jersey Mike's is opening a new sandwich shop at 1803 14th Street NW, taking over the corner spot at 14th and S Streets in Logan Circle that spent years as a neighborhood Starbucks before closing. No opening date has been announced yet, though the chain's menu is already available online for anyone curious what will be on offer once the doors open.
The Logan Circle lease was first reported by PoPville, which noted the storefront previously operated as a neighborhood Starbucks before its closure. The announcement landed just days after news broke that Jersey Mike's had signed a lease to replace TaKorean at 1212 4th Street SE inside the Twelve12 building in Navy Yard, following that restaurant's permanent closure on October 1 after a 12-year run, as Hoodline reported in its earlier coverage. TaKorean had been one of Navy Yard's early fast-casual tenants during the neighborhood's redevelopment, making its departure notable on its own before the Logan Circle news even surfaced.
A Growing Footprint Across the District
Before this stretch of expansion, Jersey Mike's maintained a fairly limited D.C. footprint, with locations inside Union Station at 50 Massachusetts Ave NE, at 1400 I Street NW downtown, and at Dakota Crossings in Northeast D.C., according to the company. Landing two new leases in major dining corridors within the same week marks a notable acceleration for the chain's presence inside District borders.
That acceleration traces back to Jersey Mike's ownership change. Private equity firm Blackstone completed an $8 billion majority acquisition of the sub chain in January 2025, with founder Peter Cancro retaining a minority equity stake and staying on as chairman, per Forbes reporting. Following the buyout, the company announced plans to speed up its national store growth from roughly 300 new locations per year to 350 to 400 annual openings across 2026 and 2027, according to Nation's Restaurant News.
The expansion push also lines up with bigger corporate ambitions. Reports emerged in January 2026 that Jersey Mike's had engaged Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase to prepare for a possible initial public offering as early as the third quarter of 2026, targeting a valuation of up to $12 billion, Restaurant Business reported.
Starbucks Keeps Shrinking Its DC Footprint
The Logan Circle storefront's shift from coffeehouse to sandwich shop fits into a larger pattern of Starbucks retrenchment across the region. In September 2026, Starbucks confirmed plans to close 250 North American stores, including its location at 1734 L St. NW in Washington along with Maryland stores in Silver Spring and Rockville, according to WUSA9.
That closure wave builds on a longer stretch of contraction. More than 10 Starbucks locations shuttered across D.C. between 2024 and 2025, including outposts at 1600 U Street NW, 1801 Columbia Road NW, 3347 M Street NW, and 2228 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, per The DMV Daily. The Anacostia location's 2024 closure was notable at the time as the shutdown of the brand's first stand-alone store east of the Anacostia River.
Turnover Along 14th Street Continues
Jersey Mike's arrival is just one piece of broader retail churn along the 14th Street and P Street corridors this fall. Other national fast-casual and fitness concepts have also been snapping up former retail spaces nearby, including Kneads Bakery moving into 1460 P St NW and Club Pilates opening at 1626 14th St NW, a location that was previously home to longtime local decor shop Miss Pixie's, per PoPville's coverage of the neighborhood.
The pattern extends beyond Logan Circle. In Navy Yard, the original Rasa flagship on First Street SE closed this year to make way for a Panda Express, a shift Hoodline's prior reporting tied to the same forces now reshaping 14th Street: high commercial rents and shifting foot traffic patterns that have accelerated tenant turnover across D.C. developments, favoring well-capitalized national chains over independent and early-generation fast-casual operators.
