Cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-60s greeted Knoxville on Sunday morning, with scattered showers and negligible rainfall expected before the day is out. The high should reach about 69 degrees, but the bigger weather story is what comes next: a remarkably warm, dry stretch taking over the workweek.
Showers may become more common this afternoon, with a 70% chance of rain. Total rainfall is expected to stay below a tenth of an inch in most spots.
Rain chances taper Sunday night, mainly before 8 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a low near 60. The National Weather Service says the Pigeon River near Newport could reach action stage Sunday evening after heavy rain in the North Carolina mountains, so people in low-lying areas near the river should remain alert for possible flooding.
Sunny Skies And 80s Take Over
Monday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 81, followed by sunny weather and highs around 84 Tuesday and 86 Wednesday. Thursday stays mostly sunny with a high near 85, and rain chances remain close to zero through most of the stretch.
Friday will still be warm, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and low rain chances late Friday into Saturday. A cooler pattern arrives late in the week.
Sunday Planning Notes
Outdoor plans could be affected by scattered showers Sunday, which are expected to linger early and taper in the evening. After those showers, Knoxville gets several days of unusually warm October weather before the weekend cooldown arrives.
