LinkedIn is seeking five more years to finish building out its Mountain View office campus. The company is now targeting 2034 to complete the project's second phase.

According to The Business Journals, LinkedIn cited supply-chain shortages and higher interest rates as reasons for its five-year delay request. The request concerns the second phase of its Mountain View campus project.

LinkedIn's Mountain View Plans Date to 2018

LinkedIn's Mountain View ambitions date back years. Mountain View's City Council approved LinkedIn's 28.7-acre corporate campus update on November 27, 2018. At the time, the project was expected to add about 3,060 employees, per the Mountain View Voice.

Earlier plans for the site called for three six-story office buildings totaling 763,000 square feet spread across a 1.2 million-square-foot site, according to Bisnow.

A Tech Office Market That's Actually Heating Up

LinkedIn's request for patience comes at an odd moment for the office sector nationally. U.S. office leasing activity over the 12 months ending in the second quarter of 2026 was 27% above the previous five-year average, according to JLL. The technology sector led that leasing volume, boosted by AI-driven organizations, the same report found.

JLL also reported that office occupancy gains exceeded 30 million square feet over the 12 months ending in the second quarter of 2026, while total office vacancy rates declined by 60 basis points quarter over quarter. Even so, the construction pipeline remained extremely depressed by historical standards despite increasing marginally for two consecutive quarters, and effective rents for new construction grew more than 20% on a rolling 12-month basis, according to the firm's data.
