One man is dead and another was injured after a shooting involving several people broke out in the parking lot of a Madison apartment complex Thursday night. Metro Nashville Police say officers responded to Birchstone Village Apartments in the 600 block of North Dupont Avenue around 7:40 p.m. to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the men was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to WSMV. The other victim was being treated for his injuries, police said. Officers at the scene said several people were involved in the shooting, which unfolded in the complex's parking lot.
Victims Not Yet Identified
Police are still working to identify both men, and their ages were unknown at the time of reporting, per the station's account. MNPD said it has leads on several suspects and is reviewing surveillance video of the incident as it tries to piece together what happened. The department described the investigation as ongoing, with no further details released on a possible motive or how the confrontation began.
A crowdsourced safety app, Citizen, separately logged an unconfirmed report of a shooting at 616 North Dupont Avenue in Madison on the same evening, along with another nearby incident reported at 752 North Dupont Avenue earlier that afternoon. It is not clear whether either of those reports is connected to the shooting confirmed by Metro police at Birchstone Village Apartments.
Second Deadly Shooting at a Madison Complex in Less Than a Year
Thursday's shooting marks the second fatal shooting at a Madison apartment complex within the past year. In December 2025, 23-year-old Aubrey Bellamy was found shot and killed inside an apartment after he reportedly fought with two other men, according to WKRN. Jaleic Horton, 21, was later charged in that killing after surveillance footage reportedly showed him and another man leaving the apartment afterward.
Citywide, the Nashville district attorney's office has reported that violent offenses fell nearly 14 percent from 2024 to 2025, alongside a nearly 12 percent drop in property-crime reports, according to data attributed to Metro Nashville Police. Metro police also maintain a firearms data dashboard tracking fatal and non-fatal shootings, along with firearm thefts, recoveries and arrests across the city.
MNPD has leads on several suspects in connection with Thursday's shooting at Birchstone Village Apartments. Anyone with information has not yet been given a specific tip line to call, but MNPD has indicated the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing surveillance footage and following up on leads.
