A man was fatally shot at a hotel along Interstate 85 in northwest Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Officers found him with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge at 4115 Glenwood Drive, and he was later pronounced dead at a local medical center.
CMPD reported that the assault with a deadly weapon took place in the hotel's parking lot, as detailed by the Charlotte Observer. Officers located the wounded man there before he was transported for medical care. His identity has not been released, and investigators have not released any details about a suspect.
A Pattern of Violence on Glenwood Drive
This marks the second fatal shooting reported in the 4100 block of Glenwood Drive in recent years, per the Observer's reporting. In June 2024, a 27-year-old woman was killed in the same stretch of the street; police later identified her as Michelle Lynn Schechter, according to WBTV. A suspect in that case was arrested days later in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and was charged with rape and murder, the Observer reported.
The Glenwood Drive corridor has seen other violence beyond those two homicides. In June 2022, CMPD investigated a double shooting near the same block that left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries, WBTV reported at the time. That victim was identified as Jayeshbhai Ravajibhai Patel.
Econo Lodge's Recent Shooting History
The hotel itself was the scene of another shooting investigation earlier this year. In February, surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed a Toyota RAV4 followed by a Mazda 3 arriving at the property, with occupants of both vehicles firing into a Chevrolet Cobalt, a victim's room and an adjacent, unoccupied room, according to Queen City News. The Cobalt was found riddled with bullet holes in the driver's side and windshield. Police later stopped the Mazda at Norland Road and Independence Boulevard and arrested all four occupants, one of whom briefly tried to flee on foot before being caught.
Other Hotel Shootings Across Charlotte
Hotels elsewhere in Charlotte have also seen deadly violence this year. In southwest Charlotte, police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon at an extended-stay hotel on Deboer Avenue near West Arrowood Road on September 26, where a woman identified as 37-year-old Tiara Love Tori Jackson was killed, Queen City News reported. A man was charged with murder in that case, though the station's report did not specify the year of the incident.
Broader numbers on Charlotte's homicide trends remain limited. The city maintains an open-data homicide dataset tracking victims under the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting definition, according to the City of Charlotte Open Data Portal, and separate Observer reporting referenced a decline in Charlotte homicides reported in 2025, though the available figures don't offer a full count or methodology for comparison.
