A man was found dead in the parking lot of the Chateau Foret condominium complex in Holladay, and two juvenile males have since been booked into juvenile detention as investigators piece together what happened over the course of a single chaotic night. Police first responded to the area after a report of gunfire, left when they found nothing, then came back hours later to a grim discovery.
According to ABC4 Utah, Unified Police Department dispatch received a call reporting a gunshot near Murray Holladay Road and Highland Drive, prompting officers to search the area. They found nothing suspicious at the time. Accounts of the exact timing differ slightly: KSL reported officers responded at about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, while Fox 13 put the initial response at 8:36 p.m., noting that officers were unable to locate anything suspicious.
A Second Call Changed Everything
Hours later, dispatch received a second call for an ambulance, per ABC4's reporting. Fox 13 pinned that call to 10:47 p.m., describing it as a 911 report of a male down in one of the Chateau Foret parking stalls. Police say they believe the two calls — the earlier gunshot report and the later male-down call — are related, according to KSL.
Officers arrived and found a man deceased in the complex's parking lot, located at 4878 Highland Circle, less than a half-mile from where the initial gunshot was reported, KSL noted. Unified Police violent crimes and forensics units responded to investigate the scene, per ABC4.
Two Juveniles Interviewed, Then Booked
Police interviewed two juveniles in connection with the case, and both were ultimately booked into juvenile detention, ABC4 reported. Fox 13's reporting on the same night described two juvenile males as having been interviewed and booked into juvenile detention following the fatal shooting. The station also reported that a weapon was recovered during the investigation and that there were no outstanding suspects — details echoed in ABC4's own account of the case.
Police have withheld the victim's name, a decision made, according to KJZZ, to give the man's family time to make personal notifications and have privacy. ABC4 similarly reported that police withheld the name while informing the victim's family.
Investigation Continues
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have said they will release more information as it becomes available, according to both ABC4 and KJZZ's reporting. No further details about the circumstances of the shooting, the weapon recovered, or the juveniles involved have been made public as of Friday.
