A man grabbed a girl as she walked to school in Garfield Park on the morning of October 26 and tried to kiss her before she broke free and he ran off, Chicago police said. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 3900-block of West Washington Boulevard.
Girl Breaks Free as Man Flees
According to ABC7 Chicago, the girl was able to escape the man's grip, and he then fled in an unknown direction. Police have not said how far he got or whether he was seen by anyone else nearby. The outlet reported the same details in its original account of the incident, which remains the primary source on the case so far.
Police described the suspect as roughly 30 years old and about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a dark blue sweater or sweatshirt paired with black pants, per the same account. No arrest has been announced, and detectives have not released any further description of the man or his direction of travel.
Detectives Seek Tips From the Public
Area Four detectives are asking anyone with information to call (312) 746-8251 or submit an anonymous tip through CPDTIP.com, the station reported. No additional details about the girl, including her age or school, have been released.
The incident adds to a string of unsettling reports this fall involving children on their way to school in Chicago. In September, NBC Chicago reported that police were searching for a teenage boy believed to have assaulted a young girl in an alley as she walked to her elementary school. It is not clear whether that case is connected to Monday's incident in Garfield Park.
