A man died at a hospital after he was stabbed multiple times while sitting inside his vehicle on Lakeshore Drive, then struck by the suspect's car as he tried to flee, according to police. The attack happened on Monday along the lakefront thoroughfare, and investigators have released no further details about what led up to it or who is responsible.
Victim Struck While Trying to Escape
According to WDSU, the victim managed to get out of his vehicle after being stabbed, but the suspect then drove a vehicle that struck him as he attempted to get away. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the case, and officers have not released the victim's identity, a description of the suspect, or any information about what sparked the violence.
The station reports it will continue to provide updates as the investigation develops. For now, the basic sequence — a stabbing while the victim sat in his vehicle, followed by a vehicle strike as he tried to flee — is the only detail NOPD has confirmed publicly.
A Rare Scene of Violence on the Lakefront
In the Lakeshore-Lake Vista neighborhood, crime-tracking service SafeRoute reports 27 incidents within 1 kilometer of the neighborhood center over nine months through October 2026. Calls skewed toward property-related incidents, and vehicle crime accounted for 12 of the 27 incidents, or 44%.
A shooting was reported in the 5000 block of Lakeshore Drive.
The University of New Orleans, situated along Lakeshore Drive, also hosts Project NOLA's National Real-Time Crime Center.
Killing Comes Amid Citywide Homicide Decline
The stabbing arrives as New Orleans is in the midst of a decline in homicides. As of October 4, the city had recorded 63 homicide victims for the year — a 42% decline compared to the same period in 2025 and a 71% drop from 2022, according to the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
The Lakeshore Drive killing is the latest in a string of public stabbings Hoodline has tracked across the city in recent weeks, even as overall violent crime trends downward.
No arrests have been announced, and police have not released a suspect description or named the victim. Anyone with information has not yet been given a specific tip line by NOPD, and further details are expected as the investigation continues.
