Marin County probation and sheriff's officials say a pre-Halloween check on people under court supervision led to two new felony arrests, including charges tied to the possession of child sexual abuse material. The operation, carried out on October 28, covered 13 people, and officials say the vast majority remained in compliance with their court-ordered conditions.

The Marin County Probation Department and the Marin County Sheriff's Office conducted the sweep specifically to verify that people under supervision were following court-ordered probation conditions, according to SFGATE. Of the 13 people checked, two were arrested on new felony charges, while the other 11 were found to be following their conditions. A separate release from Marin County states that the new felony charges include possession of numerous images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material; probation violations were reported separately.

Both people arrested had prior convictions for sex offenses against children and child endangerment, per the same account. One of the two also allegedly possessed ammunition despite a prior felony conviction that prohibited him or her from having it, officials said. The county's news release characterizing the charges was available only as a partial snippet, and full details of the case, including the identities of those arrested and the specific allegations behind the charges, have not been made public.

Eleven Others Remain Under Supervision

The remaining 11 people checked during the operation will continue under their existing supervision and are expected to keep participating in court-required rehabilitation programs, officials said. The sweep's stated goal, according to officials, was compliance verification rather than new investigation, with the two arrests emerging as a byproduct of that check.

Marin County has run similar operations in recent years. A November 2024 sweep, described by Marin County, covered 13 repeat DUI offenders, 12 registered sex offenders and four juveniles on probation with gang-related conditions, and involved 19 home searches, two vehicle searches and the examination of nine electronic devices. That operation resulted in one registered sex offender being arrested and booked for violating restrictions on prohibited content.

A Pattern Of Compliance Checks Across Marin

A year earlier, on October 30, 2025, the county's probation department teamed with the sheriff's office on a compliance sweep aimed at people on active supervision for sex offenses, according to the earlier Marin County release. The county has continued that approach into this fall: separate from the pre-Halloween operation, compliance checks on people on active parole or probation elsewhere in Marin County led to six arrests in October 2026 on suspicion of drug or weapons crimes, as reported by Local News Matters. Investigators in that case seized illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic handgun, according to the same outlet.

Much about the two arrests from the pre-Halloween sweep remains unknown, including whether prosecutors have filed formal charges or what court proceedings may follow. Officials have not released the ages, hometowns or booking details of either person arrested, and the exact number of images or videos involved in the case has not been disclosed.
