A rollover crash with entrapment on the Highway 43 Bypass near Sandy Hook left one occupant trapped inside a vehicle on Wednesday, prompting firefighters to cut open the roof before both people involved were flown to a trauma center for further treatment.

According to the Maury County Fire Department, responding units found one occupant trapped when they arrived at the scene. Crews from Engine 22 and Rescue 21 stabilized the vehicle before flapping the roof to free the trapped occupant, the department said in a Facebook post published Friday.

Once freed, both occupants were taken by Maury EMS to the Mt. Pleasant Airport, where they were flown to a trauma center for further treatment, the fire department's post states. The department did not release additional details on the occupants' conditions, the cause of the crash, or whether any citations were issued.

A Familiar Scene for Maury County Crews

This is far from the first time Maury County firefighters have had to cut someone free from a wrecked vehicle this year. In June, crews responded to a rollover crash on Mooresville Pike that resulted in an ejection, with the victim later airlifted to a nearby hospital, according to the Maury County Source.

In February, two people were trapped in a car that landed on its side after a crash on Southpoint Ridge Road in the Hampshire Community. Firefighters managed to free both of them within seven minutes of arriving, as reported by WSMV, and the pair was then rushed by helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An August head-on collision near the Giles County border required an even more involved extrication. Units dispatched to Pulaski Highway found one person trapped, and Rescue 21 removed a vehicle door and performed what's known as a dash roll to free the driver, per WKRN.

Other Recent Extrications Across the County

Not every crash this year has involved just one or two people. A rollover on I-65 North at mile marker 39 in May 2025 involved five people in a single vehicle, with one person critically injured and four others suffering minor injuries, WSMV reported at the time.

The cause of Wednesday's crash near Sandy Hook, along with the current condition of the two people involved, has not been released. Maury County Fire Department has not identified the trauma center where the occupants were flown.
