Intermountain Health McKay-Dee Hospital broke ground on a new 80,000-square-foot medical office building in Ogden on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, part of a push to expand access to primary and specialty care across Weber County. The facility is planned to open in spring 2028 and will sit on Intermountain Health's campus just north of the existing hospital.
According to a news release from Intermountain Health, the new North Campus building will house primary care offices alongside expanded space for specialty clinics covering sleep medicine, diabetes, endocrinology and pediatrics. Several clinics currently located in the existing medical office building are expected to relocate into the new facility once it opens, according to the same release. As Healthcare Design reported, the move brings together specialty clinics ranging from sleep medicine to pediatrics under one roof.
Judy Williamson, president of Intermountain Health McKay-Dee Hospital, framed the project as a response to the region's growth. “This project represents an important investment in the health of our growing community,” Williamson said, per the hospital system's release.
Freeing Up Room For Surgery And New Specialties
Moving clinics off the hospital campus is meant to do more than add exam rooms elsewhere. The relocation will help free up space on the McKay-Dee Hospital campus itself, according to the Standard-Examiner, making room for surgical specialties and services tied to inpatient care. That freed-up space is expected to support growth in existing specialties including cardiology, oncology and women's health, along with new additions in neurosurgery, colorectal surgery and general surgery, the newspaper reported.
Perhaps the most notable change: the shuffle will also allow McKay-Dee Hospital to offer urology and neurology services for the first time, per the Standard-Examiner's report. The Standard-Examiner also reported that seven clinics are expected to move from the McKay-Dee Hospital main campus to the new facility, a figure that differs from the hospital system's own release describing the move only as involving “several” clinics.
Part Of A Larger North Campus Buildout
The new medical office building is not a standalone project — it's the latest piece of Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital's broader North Campus expansion. The Endoscopy Center and Porter Family Medicine Clinic recently opened on the same campus, while the Surgery Center and Sports Medicine clinic have already been serving patients there for years, according to Journal of Healthcare Contracting.
Diabetes, endocrinology and sleep medicine care are already offered at the existing McKay-Dee Medical Office Building, which notes it provides all-age diabetes and endocrinology services — the same specialty areas slated for expanded space in the new North Campus building. Intermountain Health is headquartered in Salt Lake City and has pursued similar expansions elsewhere in the state and region, including a groundbreaking for the Desert Color Parkway Clinic in southwest Utah and plans for an 80,000-square-foot medical office building. The system also broke ground on a new Copper Hills Clinic in West Jordan last year to expand primary care access for families, according to ABC4 Utah.
For Weber County patients, the practical payoff won't arrive for a while yet — the spring 2028 opening date is still more than a year off. But the groundbreaking marks a concrete step toward consolidating specialty care in one new building while clearing room at McKay-Dee Hospital itself for surgical growth and services the hospital has never offered before.
