Nearly 500 authors, including Pulitzer and Booker Prize winners, are set to converge on downtown Miami next month for the 43rd annual Miami Book Fair, running Nov. 15 through Nov. 22 at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus. The lineup mixes literary heavyweights like Margaret Atwood and Colson Whitehead with newly minted National Book Award finalists and a first-time author who also happens to be a beloved television star.
Organizers announced the 2026 lineup this week, according to WLRN, describing a festival that will run programming in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole across its eight-day run. The fair's flagship Evenings With Series kicks off Nov. 15 and continues through Nov. 20, while the free Street Fair weekend — the event's signature draw of booksellers, music and panels — takes over the following three days, Nov. 20 through 22.
Four freshly named National Book Award finalists will appear as part of the roster: Edwidge Danticat, Hannah Lillith Assadi, Camonghne Felix and Joseph Osmundson, per the same WLRN report. U.S. Poet Laureate Arthur Sze is also on the bill, joining what WLRN describes as a group of headline names that includes both Pulitzer and Booker Prize winners.
Shalhoub, Whitehead and Garmus Anchor the Evening Series
Tony Shalhoub will make his literary debut on opening night, Nov. 15, appearing alongside his daughter, writer and producer Josie Adams, to discuss their book We Thought They'd Never Leave: Musings on Food and Family, according to a press release from Miami Dade College. Four days later, on Nov. 19, two-time Pulitzer winner Colson Whitehead returns with Cool Machine, the third and final installment of his Harlem Trilogy, bringing readers back to the world of Ray Carney one last time.
Bonnie Garmus, whose debut novel Lessons in Chemistry became a runaway bestseller, will present her follow-up, Peck & Peck, sometime during the Evenings With run, the WLRN report notes. The MDC announcement also lists Elena Armas, Jeff Garlin, Zibby Owens, Brad Meltzer and NPR's Alex Mayyasi and Alexi Horowitz-Ghazi among the names slated to appear during that stretch of programming.
Atwood Shares a Stage With a Debut Author
On Nov. 21, Margaret Atwood will discuss her memoir, Book of Lives: A Memoir of Sorts, in a shared appearance with debut author Jess Gibson, who will present her first short story collection, The Good Eye, according to a separate MDC release announcing the pairing. The Biscayne Times, in its own rundown of this year's roster, also names Sophia Bush, Meg Cabot, Ani DiFranco, Dave Eggers, Tom Perrotta and Beatriz Williams among the broader slate of visiting writers.
The festival will close on Nov. 22 with a tribute marking 50 years since the publication of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, featuring Christopher Rice, Eric Shaw Quinn and Carissa Broadbent alongside a live taping of the Dinner Partners podcast, per WLRN's report. The Street Fair itself, as the Biscayne Times describes it, brings together hundreds of booksellers alongside music, food trucks and a long list of visiting authors across its three days.
A Poster Rooted in Downtown Miami
Organizers also unveiled the fair's official 2026 poster, titled Foundation of Learning, created by Isabella Isaza, a student at New World School of the Arts and a Miami-based graphic designer. The artwork depicts Miami's historic Freedom Tower built from books, and organizers said the image connects symbols of knowledge, opportunity and new beginnings, according to WLRN.
Isaza grew up in South Miami and has said that spending more time downtown introduced her to the artists and creative spaces of her hometown. She hopes the poster leaves viewers feeling inspired and curious enough to pick up a book or learn something new, per the same report.
A Fair Built Into the City's Year-Round Literary Life
Miami Book Fair was founded in 1984 by Miami Dade College and its partners, and it now offers literary and educational programming throughout the year beyond its November centerpiece, according to a Miami Dade College announcement. The organization's year-round calendar includes creative writing workshops, performance events and family storytime sessions, per its own event listings at miamibookfair.com.
The fair's Books for Free initiative distributes more than 150,000 free books annually to children across Miami-Dade County, Miami Dade College says. Mitchell Kaplan, founder of Miami Book Fair and Books & Books, said the event reflects Miami's many languages and cultures and makes room for conversations built around shared stories, a sentiment that echoes the multilingual programming organizers say will run across the full eight days.
