The Miami Heat are turning their home court into Vice City for one night, timing a new uniform, a specially designed court and a slate of fan activations to the Nov. 18 release-eve matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks at Kaseya Center. The event, dubbed A Night in Vice City, arrives just as Rockstar Games prepares to launch Grand Theft Auto VI, the long-awaited sequel set in a fictionalized version of Miami that shares its name with the promotion.

According to nba.com, the Heat will play on special hardwood built just for the occasion and debut what the team calls a new, completely reimagined uniform for the night, alongside unique game-night activations and special activities inside the arena. The league's own description frames the crossover as a historic partnership, calling it a never-been-done-before event timed to the eve of Grand Theft Auto VI's release. As Axios reports, the Heat have also launched a Vice City clothing collection through the team store, with the collection including t-shirts, hoodies and hats.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 18, and the date is no coincidence: Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release the very next day, Nov. 19, 2026, per the Sun Sentinel. The game also carries its own basketball storyline — the Sun Sentinel notes it will be Giannis Antetokounmpo's first game against his former team since he was traded to the Heat in July.

A Rooftop Billboard Visible From the Sky

The Vice City branding isn't confined to the court. A massive Welcome to Vice City message has been installed on the roof of Kaseya Center, according to CBS News Miami, which reports the display is positioned to give some travelers flying into Miami International Airport a bird's-eye view of the promotion. The station notes that GTA VI is set in the fictional state of Leonida and returns the series to Vice City, a setting heavily inspired by Miami and South Florida itself.

A separate CBS News Miami report, a video segment on the sign's debut, shows the display now illuminated atop the arena, having expanded the Vice City promotion from a single game-night concept into a standing marketing fixture downtown. Per the same account, the rooftop display is scheduled to remain active on the arena through 2027, according to Y100.

Merchandise and a Franchise With Nearly 475 Million Units Sold

Fans looking to dress for the occasion can already find Vice City apparel at the Miami HEAT Store, in person and online, per nba.com. The retailer's existing Original Vice collection, found at the Miami HEAT Store, includes items like the Nike Miami HEAT Original Vice Full Zip Hoodie alongside jerseys, tees and hats.

The crossover taps into a franchise with enormous reach. Rockstar Games has said Grand Theft Auto has sold nearly 475 million units across its entries, calling it one of the biggest-selling and most critically acclaimed and influential properties in modern entertainment, the Sun Sentinel reports.

Criticism Over the Game's Violent Themes

Not everyone in South Florida is celebrating the tie-in. The broader Vice City marketing campaign has drawn local political fire for the game's depiction of murder and violence, including criticism from the county's Association of Chiefs of Police, according to the Miami Herald. Miami-Dade Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez voiced similar concerns to the Sun Sentinel, saying, “It's a game where police officers are killed. Pedestrians are run over.”

Those objections have not slowed the promotional rollout. With the rooftop sign already lit and apparel on store shelves, the Heat and Rockstar appear set on making Nov. 18 a full-arena spectacle before Grand Theft Auto VI reaches players the following day.
