A freshly renovated playground opened Thursday at Charlie DeLucca Park in Miami, giving families at the 455 NW 47th Avenue site new equipment to climb, swing and explore. District 1 Commissioner Miguel Gabela hosted an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, and city officials say more upgrades, including a planned jogging course, are already in the works.

According to the City of Miami

, the city invested $684,000 into the community for the project, which the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department helped complete on time and within budget. The city says plans are moving forward for a new jogging course and additional park improvements, driven by feedback from residents. Gabela, who represents the district where the park sits, also chairs the Bayfront Park Management Trust overseeing downtown Miami's waterfront spaces, according to

.

Other Work at the Park

The park also briefly hosted construction staging for Florida Power & Light this year, after the Miami City Commission passed a resolution in July sponsored by Gabela authorizing a temporary access agreement for the utility work.

The utility staging points to a period of activity at the site beyond the playground itself. The facility includes basketball and tennis courts and soccer fields, per the City of Miami's parks directory.

From Kinloch Park to a Modern Community Hub

Long before it carried its current name, the site was known as Kinloch Park, according to ParkMagnet. Some longtime residents still refer to the park by its original name, the outlet notes.

Part of a Much Larger Parks Network

Charlie DeLucca Park is part of the City of Miami's public parks system.

The park sits in Miami, and residents have a renovated playground to show for the city's latest round of investment, with officials signaling that the jogging course and further improvements are still to come.
