A family-owned Haitian bakery with roots in Miramar has quietly opened its doors in Miami Shores, and it's inviting the neighborhood to celebrate properly next week. La Paix Bakery says its new shop at 9636 NE 2nd Ave is already serving customers, with an official grand opening celebration planned for October 27.
According to La Paix Bakery, the message on its own website puts it plainly: “Our Miami Shores location is NOW OPEN! Join us on October 27th for our official Grand Opening celebration!” The company describes the Miami Shores spot as its second location, a notable milestone for a bakery that has spent two decades building its name in Haitian communities across South Florida. The EIN Presswire release describes the new site as a hybrid bakery and café.
From a 1999 Start to a Second Storefront
La Paix Bakery's story begins well before the Miami Shores expansion. Lucien Nozile and Yolande Derosier started their first bakery together in 1999, the bakery's website notes, before opening La Paix Bakery in 2005 alongside Nadeige.
The EIN Presswire release adds further detail to the family's roles: Nadeige Sterlin brings more than 13 years of CPG and food-and-beverage corporate experience across strategy, sales, and marketing, while Natasha Nozile-Janvier contributes expertise in marketing, operations, and recipe refinement.
What's Planned for the Grand Opening
The Miami Shores grand opening celebration is set for October 27. Guests are expected to receive complimentary La Paix Bakery branded bags and product samples, according to the same release. The release also describes the new store as featuring a café-style layout with both indoor and outdoor seating.
The release further states that the Miami Shores store will offer egg breakfast sandwiches, fritay fried appetizers, and daily hot meal options, in addition to items already associated with the brand. La Paix Bakery's existing menu, per its own site, includes hard-dough breads, patties, sweet coconut and peanut products, and fresh passion fruit juice. The bakery's website describes authentic Haitian flavors and freshly baked goods.
A Bigger Footprint in Haitian South Florida
The Miami Shores opening gives La Paix Bakery a location in Miami-Dade County, adding to its South Florida footprint.
Nearly 731,000 Haitian immigrants resided in the United States as of 2022, according to the Migration Policy Institute, and Florida was home to 49 percent of them during the 2017-2021 period. The greater Miami, New York and Boston metropolitan areas together housed 66 percent of Haitian immigrants nationwide over that same stretch, the institute reports. In 2000, Miami-Dade County counted about 96,000 Haitian residents, according to a Brookings Institution report.
Part of a Wider Haitian Food Business Scene
La Paix's expansion also fits into a broader pattern of Haitian food entrepreneurship taking root across the state. Roughly 562 Haitian restaurants operate in the United States, with most concentrated in Florida, according to The Haitian Times, which has also reported that 5 Coins provides grab-and-go and dine-in options in Haiti and has ventured into Miami. The outlet notes that Florida, New York and Massachusetts together house 66 percent of the country's Haitian immigrants.
For now, the focus in Miami Shores is on the celebration ahead. La Paix has spent more than two decades building its presence, and is now asking neighbors to mark the occasion together on October 27.
