Two 16-year-old boys sitting inside a parked car in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood were shot late Friday night when a gunman on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire, according to police. Both teens are expected to survive their injuries.
The shooting happened at about 11:20 p.m. Friday on the 6500 block of South Laflin Street, according to ABC7 Chicago. Chicago police said officers responded to the block around that time, according to FOX 32 Chicago, which reported the gunman pointed a weapon at the teens before shooting. The two 16-year-olds were sitting inside a parked car when the motorcycle rider pulled alongside them and began firing.
One of the teens suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, the station's report noted. The other was shot in the foot and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital. Police said both are expected to be OK.
Suspect Fled Eastbound, No Description Released
The motorcycle rider fled eastbound on 65th Street after the shooting, according to the same account. Police have not released a description of the gunman, and nobody was in custody as of the initial report. Area detectives are investigating the shooting, per FOX 32 Chicago.
In August, a 34-year-old man was fatally wounded and two other men were injured in a triple shooting in the 700 block of 73rd Street, according to the Chicago Tribune. That shooting broke out shortly before 9:45 p.m. after three men outside got into an argument with someone who pulled out a weapon and opened fire; the 34-year-old victim was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at UChicago Medicine. No one was taken into custody in that case either, and detectives were still investigating, the Tribune reported.
Gun Violence Concentrated in Fewer Neighborhoods
Gun violence has been concentrated in a relatively small portion of the city.
It remains unclear whether Friday's shooting on South Laflin Street is connected to other violence in Englewood or surrounding police districts. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Chicago police.
