A Dangerous Stretch of Road With a Troubled History
This is not the first serious crash at this intersection. In August 2025, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash at General McMullen and Wallace.
A 74-year-old woman was struck by a pickup at the intersection, KSAT reported. Then in May, a 37-year-old motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries at the same intersection when a pickup truck turned left without yielding, throwing the rider and crashing into two additional vehicles, according to the station's reporting.
City Had Already Targeted This Intersection for Upgrades
The City of San Antonio has planned upgrades for the intersection, as reported by KSAT.
San Antonio's “Keep Crossings SAfe” initiative and crash data from 2018 through 2022 offer a broader view of road safety.
A Countywide Problem
Wednesday's crash also fits into a broader regional pattern. Texas Department of Transportation crash data analyzed in 2026 showed Bexar County logged 48,522 traffic crashes in 2024 — more than any other county in A-LA Auto Insurance's study area — resulting in 215 traffic deaths, according to an analysis from A-LA Auto Insurance. Statewide, speed contributed to nearly 160,000 crashes and 1,467 deaths across Texas in 2024, while alcohol or drug impairment was involved in roughly 35% of statewide traffic fatalities in 2025, per data cited by the Parks Law Firm.
The pickup driver died at the hospital.
