Jason Pyros, 34, is behind bars after an alleged workplace assault in Nashville. He faces one count of aggravated assault. Police say a bystander intervened, and the victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Metro Nashville Police responded Monday to a workplace in Davidson County, according to WKRN News 2. Officers found a man on the sidewalk with visible ligature marks on his neck and cuts and scrapes on his face. Pyros was held on a $40,000 bond.
What the Arrest Paperwork Alleges
According to arrest documents described by WKRN, security footage shows Pyros approaching the victim and punching him in the face. The documents say Pyros pinned him down and continued punching until a bystander pulled him away.
The paperwork also alleges that Pyros threw an object at the victim, who then used pepper spray on him, according to WKRN.
The Alleged Restraint and Injuries
After the pepper-spray incident, Pyros allegedly tackled the victim and strangled him with the victim’s necklace. A bystander put Pyros in a headlock and pulled him away, according to WKRN.
Paramedics were concerned about the victim’s neck injuries and took him to the hospital. An MNPD officer said the victim would likely need stitches for his facial injuries.
Pyros’ Self-Defense Claim
Pyros told officers he acted in self-defense and said the incident began with a verbal argument, according to WKRN.
OSHA Guidance on Workplace Violence
OSHA publishes workplace-violence guidelines for employers, but the agency says they are advisory, do not create new employer obligations and are not a basis for citations. The guidelines therefore do not themselves establish a mandatory requirement for every industry, according to OSHA.
The available reporting does not resolve the competing accounts. The victim’s identity, the employer and what prompted the dispute have not been made public, and no court date has been reported.
