A man is expected to recover after being shot in the arm overnight in North Avondale, in the latest shooting to hit the Cincinnati neighborhood this year. Cincinnati police say the gunfire was reported around 2:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Dana Avenue, and the victim was rushed to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
According to FOX19, the man was found with a gunshot wound to one of his arms and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is expected to recover. Police said they are still working to find out what led up to the shooting, and no further details about a possible motive or suspect have been released.
A Neighborhood That Had Gone Quiet
The shooting adds to a run of gun violence that has rattled North Avondale after a relatively calm stretch. Nobody was shot in the neighborhood in 2024 or 2025, following a 2023 in which five people were shot and one died, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. That changed in March, when 15-year-old Nazir Owens was fatally shot in North Avondale — the first killing in a shooting there in 2026 and only the second shooting of the year in the neighborhood at the time, per the same report.
Citywide, two incidents left nine people shot at Riverfront Live and four people injured in Northside.
More Violence Followed In August
North Avondale was hit again over the summer, when a shooting injured four people on a Saturday night, two of them with life-threatening injuries, as The Cincinnati Exchange reported at the time. That same month, Hoodline reported a separate shooting on the 1900 block of Dana Avenue in the neighboring Evanston neighborhood, where a person was shot in the leg and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries near Xavier's edge.
Dana Avenue itself has a longer history tied to gun violence in the area. Police responded to a report of a person shot in the head in the 900 block of Dana Avenue in Avondale back in 2013, according to WLWT.
Investigation Remains Open
No arrests or suspect information have been disclosed in connection with the overnight shooting, and Cincinnati police have not said what sparked the gunfire. The Cincinnati Police Department's own neighborhood crime reporting notes that its data is preliminary and subject to further analysis, meaning any broader shooting tallies for North Avondale this year remain subject to revision.
For now, the victim is expected to recover from his arm wound, and the investigation into what happened on Dana Avenue early Friday continues.
