A North Miami-Dade father is behind bars after his two children told investigators they were denied food for days, forced to drink water from the shower, and made to use a bucket as a toilet. Wendy Louis, 40, was charged with two counts of child neglect following a welfare check at his home on Northeast 175th Street.
Welfare Check Uncovers Disturbing Allegations
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Louis after conducting the welfare check, according to WSVN. Investigators say the children described going days without food, being confined to their rooms, and relying on shower water to drink because they had no other access to liquids. The children also told authorities they were required to use a bucket as a toilet, the station reports.
According to the same report, the children said Louis went days without feeding them because he believed the government was putting substances in their food. Investigators also learned the children had not attended school since August 2025 and were not being homeschooled, per the station’s account.
Judge Calls Allegations “Egregious” in Bond Court
Louis faces a felony charge of child neglect without great bodily harm, WSVN notes. During his bond hearing, a judge described the allegations against him as “egregious” and issued a stay-away order barring him from contact with the children, according to the outlet. The judge set financial bonds, citing the “egregious” nature of the allegations.
The reported bond amounts are consistent: NBC 6 South Florida reports the judge set Louis’s bond at $5,000 total and ordered him to stay away from the kids, while WSVN reports the bond was set at $2,500 per count for two counts. NBC 6 South Florida also reports that Louis was arrested and booked into jail following the investigation.
