A man was injured Wednesday afternoon after accidentally shooting himself while getting off a Miami-Dade transit bus in North Miami, with the gun believed to have been tucked in his waistband discharging and striking him in the groin area as he stepped off, according to WSVN 7News.
North Miami Police responded near Northeast Sixth Avenue, according to WSVN. Witnesses told the station they heard a gunshot and saw the injured man running near a 7-Eleven. What caused the firearm to discharge was not clear in the report.
Officers Tape Off Scene, Canvass for Witnesses
Responding officers taped off the bus stop and began interviewing witnesses while combing the surrounding area, as noted by WSVN 7News. The man was ultimately found by responding authorities. Paramedics rushed him to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, though his condition was unknown as of the station's report.
Police audio cited by WSVN indicated that detectives later found and secured the firearm. The transit bus was also called back to the scene as more law enforcement arrived; investigators examined the bus and nearby area for evidence, WSVN 7News reported.
