New Orleans is waking to clear skies and temperatures around 70 degrees Monday, with a calm start before afternoon heat pushes toward 87. The bigger change arrives Friday night, when a cold front is expected to bring gusty winds and a much cooler weekend.
Monday will stay sunny and dry, with light and variable winds and no meaningful rain chance. A mostly clear night should bring a low near 69, while some low-lying spots could briefly see shallow ground fog around daybreak, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat Hangs On Through Thursday
The warm pattern continues Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs near 88 and 86, respectively, under mostly sunny to sunny skies. Thursday remains sunny with a high near 85, keeping the workweek unusually hot for October and potentially close to daily records in parts of the region.
Friday Front Brings Wind And Cooler Weekend
Friday should still reach about 86 degrees before the front moves through Friday night. Winds and seas are expected to increase after the front, with small-craft advisories likely, as temperatures drop to the mid-70s for both Saturday and Sunday.
Lows behind the front are expected to be in the 40s and 50s in most areas, with Sunday mostly sunny. Rain chances remain low throughout the forecast, but boaters should keep an eye out for possible small-craft advisories as winds and seas become rougher next weekend.
No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently posted for the New Orleans area or nearby Gulf waters.
