An Ohio man is facing human trafficking charges after Miami Beach police said they traced an online prostitution advertisement directly to his hotel room. The arrest, made by the department's specialized task force, is the latest in a string of trafficking cases detectives have brought to light on the barrier island this year.
According to CBS News Miami, Miami Beach Police's Human Trafficking Task Force made the arrest after following an online prostitution ad that led them to the man.
A Separate State Attorney's Office Advisory
Separately, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office issued a media advisory describing a different set of human trafficking arrests. The office's advisory, announced as “Multiple Human Trafficking case arrests lead to the charging of an alleged out-of-state trafficker and additional filed trafficking case against local resident,” per the Office of the Miami-Dade State Attorney, described charges against an alleged out-of-state trafficker as well as an additional filed case involving a local resident.
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones was listed among the officials tied to that advisory, the state attorney's office noted. The advisory does not specify whether the out-of-state trafficker it references is the same Ohio man described in the CBS News Miami video, and that connection has not been verified.
Pattern of Task Force Cases in Miami Beach
This is not the first time Miami Beach's Human Trafficking Task Force has said an online ad cracked open a case. In an earlier incident, detectives working an undercover detail found a prostitution advertisement on Listcrawler that included a phone number, and contacted it as part of their investigation, the station's report noted. That case led to the arrest of Robert Brown, 37, of Great Britain, on charges including human trafficking, deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and cocaine possession.
In that case, the woman involved told police she had given Brown $14,061 from her prostitution earnings, in addition to money he requested for cigarettes and food, per the same account. She also alleged she was told to hand over 20% of her earnings to him, an arrangement she said he later changed to a flat rate whenever she made $500 or more. When Brown was taken into custody, officers found him with a bag containing his passport, three glass pipes holding a substance believed to be crack, and a color push rod, the report stated.
Broader Enforcement Push Across Miami-Dade
The Ohio man's arrest lands amid a wider wave of trafficking enforcement across Miami-Dade County this year. In April, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and City of Miami Police Department Chief Manuel Morales announced that 15 individuals had been charged with human trafficking of minors during what authorities called Operation Wrong Turn, according to the Office of Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.
Months later, in June, a sting operation in Homestead reportedly resulted in the arrest of 12 men on felony charges, including human trafficking of a minor, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Fernandez Rundle announced, as reported by CBS Miami. Those cases, along with the newest Miami Beach arrest, underscore how frequently local task forces are turning to online advertisements as a starting point for trafficking investigations.
No further details about the Ohio man's charges, bond status or court proceedings have been released. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
