Omaha is starting Monday with clear skies and temperatures near 70 degrees, but the day is headed somewhere much warmer. Afternoon sunshine will push the city to about 92 degrees before rain chances and a sharp cooldown reshape the rest of the week.
Monday Brings One More Summer-Like Blast
Monday will stay sunny and breezy, with south-southwest winds running 9 to 15 mph and gusting up to 25 mph. Temperatures should climb through the 80s around midday before reaching the low 90s during the afternoon.
The heat is a little more pronounced than the outlook in Sunday's Hoodline forecast, while the first rain chances now look mainly like a nighttime issue. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for the Omaha area.
Rain Chances Build After Dark
Monday night will turn mostly clear, with a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3 a.m. and a low near 59 degrees. Tuesday should bring mostly sunny skies and a cooler high near 80, but showers and thunderstorms become more likely Tuesday night, when the rain chance rises to 50%.
The broader forecast discussion from the National Weather Service says a few strong to severe storms could clip southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the higher risk expected farther south. For Omaha, the more notable concern is the increasing chance of rain and storms overnight.
Wednesday Starts The Fall-Like Turn
Wednesday brings a 50% chance of rain showers, mostly cloudy skies and a high near 69 degrees. Rain chances rise again Wednesday night, and showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday as temperatures settle in the upper 60s.
Thursday's north wind could gust to around 22 mph, adding to the chilly, unsettled feel. After that, skies should clear, with Friday turning sunny but cool near 59 degrees.
Cold Nights Arrive By The Weekend
Friday night could be the coldest stretch of the forecast, with temperatures dropping to around 38 degrees under mostly clear skies. The weather service says patchy frost may be possible, though a hard freeze is not currently the most likely outcome.
Saturday rebounds to a sunny 62 degrees, followed by another mild, sunny day Sunday with a high near 69. In other words, Omaha gets one last taste of summer Monday before the calendar finally starts acting like October.
