One person died and another was hospitalized after a house fire tore through a home on San Antonio's Northeast Side shortly after midnight Friday. Firefighters also managed to rescue a dog from the burning house before the blaze gutted the inside of the structure.

Crews were called just after midnight to a home in the 200 block of Blakeley Drive, near Rittiman Road and Austin Highway, according to KSAT. Two people and a dog were inside the home when the fire broke out, and firefighters were able to pull one person and the dog to safety, though a second person did not survive, as reported by WOAI.

The person who was rescued was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation, per the same KSAT report. Their current condition has not been released, and the identity of the person who died has also not been made public, according to WOAI.

Inside of Home Left Severely Damaged

The interior of the house sustained severe damage in the fire, KSAT reports. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the San Antonio Fire Department's arson team, which has not yet released further details on what sparked the flames.

No additional information about the dog's condition after the rescue, the extent of property damage, or the identities of those involved has been released as the investigation continues.
