Memphis woke up clear and calm Thursday, with temperatures around 63 degrees early and a hot, sunny climb ahead. The high is expected to reach 89 degrees, with light east-northeast winds and almost no chance of rain. But the quiet stretch is short-lived: the remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds Saturday.
An Air Quality Alert remains in effect through 5:30 p.m. Thursday across Shelby County. The Shelby County Health Department says ozone levels may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including active children and adults and people with respiratory conditions, so prolonged outdoor exertion should be limited.
Memphis Stays Hot Through Friday
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a clear Thursday night, with a low near 64 degrees and east-northeast winds around 5 mph. Friday should bring sunshine, a high near 91 degrees and light southeast winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday night brings a few more clouds and a low around 67 degrees. Conditions are expected to remain dry through Friday.
Saturday Brings Heavy Rain And Strong Gusts
For Saturday, the forecast calls for rain showers after 7 a.m. and mostly cloudy skies, with a 90% chance of precipitation. Temperatures should reach only about 73 degrees before falling toward 67 in the afternoon.
Some parts of the region could see gusts of 35 mph or more.
Check Local Flood-Hazard Maps
For local flood-hazard context, residents can consult the FEMA Flood Map Service Center, which FEMA identifies as the official public source for flood-hazard information and related maps. This forecast does not identify which parts of Memphis or Shelby County are in federally mapped hazard areas or explain what a designation means for a particular property.
Sunshine Returns Sunday
Showers should taper off early Sunday, followed by mostly sunny skies and a high near 77 degrees. The outlook turns warmer and drier again, with a high near 85 degrees Monday and temperatures in the mid-80s Tuesday.
Only slight rain chances are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday, so the main weather concern for Memphis is the sharp weekend shift from heat and sunshine to heavy rain and blustery conditions.
