New York City is starting Friday with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-50s, but the weekend forecast is already taking a wetter turn. Friday will be sunny and seasonable, while showers are now expected to arrive Sunday morning and linger into Columbus Day.
Sunny Friday Gives Way To Breezy Weather
Friday’s high should reach about 71 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with west winds of 7 to 15 mph increasing through the afternoon. Gusts could approach 20 to 25 mph, making the day feel more brisk than the thermometer suggests.
Friday night will turn mostly clear with a low near 55, followed by a partly sunny Saturday with a high around 69. Saturday night stays mostly cloudy, with temperatures settling near 59 and only a slight chance of rain.
Sunday Rain Arrives Earlier And Heavier
The National Weather Service discussion places the start of widespread rain Sunday in the late morning or early afternoon. It expects about an inch of rain over 18 to 24 hours and says a widespread 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts, cannot be ruled out. Hoodline’s earlier forecast gives a 50% chance of rain Sunday daytime and 90% Sunday night. Minor urban and poor-drainage flooding remains the main concern.
That is a sharper and earlier wet-weather setup than the outlook described in Hoodline’s previous forecast. Sunday’s high should reach about 67 degrees before temperatures fall only slightly Sunday night, when showers remain likely and northeast winds strengthen.
Columbus Day Starts Wet Before Skies Brighten
Showers are likely before 2 p.m. Monday, with a high near 70 and partly sunny skies possible later in the day. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for New York City, but anyone making outdoor plans should keep rain gear handy for the holiday weekend.
Tuesday looks mostly sunny and warmer, with a high near 72 and only a slight chance of afternoon showers.
