New York City is starting Thursday with clear skies and temperatures near 58 degrees, but the jacket weather will not last long. Sunny skies should push the high to around 73, making it the warmest day before a cooler, quieter weekend, while west winds around 14 mph could gust to 24 mph.
Sunny, Breezy Thursday
A weak front will pass through the region this morning. A sprinkle or brief shower cannot be ruled out, but the National Weather Service expects no measurable rain and mostly sunny conditions through the afternoon.
Friday And Saturday Stay Dry
Friday will remain sunny with a high near 70 and west winds reaching 23 mph in gusts. Saturday looks mostly sunny and milder, with a high near 68, though clouds will build Saturday night as temperatures settle around 60.
Rain Chances Rise Sunday
Sunday starts mostly cloudy before showers become possible after 2 p.m., with a 50% chance of rain and a high near 69. Rain becomes much more likely Sunday night, when the chance rises to 90%, and showers are likely again before 2 p.m. Monday, Columbus Day, with a high near 71; that is a sharper wet-weather turn than an earlier Hoodline forecast suggested.
Boaters Should Watch The Wind
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through 2 p.m. Thursday for waters from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point and 20 nautical miles offshore, where gusts around 25 mph and seas of 3 to 5 feet are expected. On land, the main weather story is a sunny but breezy afternoon before the weekend shifts from outdoor-friendly to increasingly damp.
