Phoenix Police are asking for help locating 15-year-old Matthew Garcia-Jansing. The department’s missing juvenile notice says his friends and family are concerned for his safety.
Anyone with information about Garcia-Jansing’s whereabouts is asked to call Phoenix Police at 602-262-6151. The notice directs people to report tips by phone rather than through social-media comments or direct messages.
What national figures can—and cannot—show
National missing-person statistics offer scale, but they do not resolve questions about an individual search. The FBI’s 2025 NCIC report counted 88,093 active missing-person records nationwide as of December 31, 2025; 21,487 involved juveniles under 18. These are national active records, not an Arizona-specific count or a measure of how many cases were resolved.
A separate measure comes from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which reported assisting law enforcement with 29,568 missing-children cases in 2024 and helping bring 91% of those children home. Those figures cover cases NCMEC assisted with; they are not Phoenix Police reports or FBI NCIC records, and they do not indicate an outcome in Garcia-Jansing’s case.
Arizona’s alert criteria are another distinct part of the picture: the Arizona Department of Public Safety says all five of its criteria must be met for an AMBER Alert. The details in the Phoenix Police notice do not establish whether those criteria apply here.
