A two-vehicle crash at Forest Hill Boulevard and South State Road 7 in Wellington sent three people to the hospital Friday afternoon, with two of them meeting trauma alert criteria after witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck roll over. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the collision between a car and a pickup truck, and all three injured people were transported by ground units to a hospital.
By the time responders arrived, the pickup truck was back on its wheels, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, even though witnesses told crews they saw the truck flip during the crash. The other vehicle involved sustained moderate damage, fire rescue officials said. These details were first reported by WPEC.
Why Two Victims Were Classified as Trauma Alerts
Two of the three injured people met trauma alert criteria, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Under Florida Department of Health prehospital trauma rules, emergency medical personnel designate crash victims as trauma alerts based on specific physiological indicators or high-risk crash dynamics, including vehicle rollovers, passenger compartment intrusion exceeding 12 to 18 inches, or severe blunt trauma, according to official state transport protocols detailed by the Florida Department of Health. Those protocols mandate rapid stabilization and transport to a designated trauma center within 10 minutes of scene arrival whenever feasible.
St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach is designated by the state as a Level I Trauma Center equipped to handle complex emergency trauma transports from across Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Department of Health's FloridaHealthFinder directory. Level I trauma centers maintain on-duty specialized surgical and critical care teams around the clock.
A Known Trouble Spot Near Wellington's Busiest Corridors
The crash unfolded at a junction with a documented history of danger. State Road 7 and Forest Hill Boulevard in Wellington tied as the single most crash-prone intersection in Palm Beach County in 2021, recording 96 traffic collisions that year, according to Palm Beach County Traffic Engineering Division data reported by Schuler, Weisser, Zoeller, Overbeck & Baxter. The intersection sits adjacent to major commercial and medical hubs, including The Mall at Wellington Green and Wellington Regional Medical Center, where multi-lane travel and frequent emergency vehicle traffic create complex driving conditions, per a report by Lesser, Landy, Smith & Siegel, PLLC. Both corridors feature four or more lanes in each direction near the intersection.
Emergency medical and fire response for Wellington is provided under contract by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue's Battalion 2, which maintains four dedicated fire stations staffed continuously with dual-paramedic Advanced Life Support crews, according to official municipal records from the Village of Wellington. Each station operates with six firefighters on duty 24 hours a day. Countywide, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is a Class 1 all-hazards agency operating 51 fire stations and responding to more than 150,000 emergency incidents annually across unincorporated areas and 19 partner municipalities, according to agency records published on Wikipedia.
Part of a Broader Pattern on Forest Hill and SR 7
Friday's crash adds to a troubling recent history along both corridors. Hoodline previously reported on a fatal bicyclist crash on Forest Hill Boulevard in May 2025, when an out-of-control vehicle crossed the median and struck a cyclist and street hardware, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office records. Forest Hill Boulevard is a heavily traveled east-west connector linking Wellington to coastal Palm Beach County.
The State Road 7 corridor has also seen multiple fatal collisions involving turning vehicles and violent impacts, including a September 2026 crash at EF Johns Parkway in Boca Raton and a May 2026 crash at Victoria Groves Boulevard in Royal Palm Beach, as previously reported by Hoodline. High speed limits and heavy traffic volume make multi-lane turns along State Road 7 particularly hazardous.
A County Averaging Nearly 70 Crashes a Day
Friday's collision is one of thousands recorded across the region this year. Palm Beach County logged approximately 25,300 total traffic crashes in 2025, resulting in 156 fatalities and averaging nearly 70 collisions per day, according to preliminary Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles data analyzed by Baker & DiSalvo Personal Injury Law. Statewide, Florida recorded approximately 366,300 traffic crashes in 2025, a 4% decline from 2024 but still resulting in 2,930 traffic fatalities and more than 238,000 injuries, according to state data reported by Swope, Rodante P.A. The scope of Friday's investigation remains with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, which has not released further details on how the crash occurred.
