A pickup truck came crashing through a fence and into the back wall of the H.G. Hill Food Store in Springfield, Tennessee on Sunday night, leaving a hole large enough to see straight into the store's back room. The first 911 call came in at 9:51 p.m., and Springfield police took the female driver into custody at the scene. No injuries were reported.
According to smokeybarn.com, the truck traveled nearly 174 feet down a steep hillside, crossed Hill Street, descended another embankment, broke through a fence, and finally crashed into the rear of the store. The same outlet reports the vehicle appeared to have been traveling along an alleyway connecting South Willow Street and Hill Street before it left the roadway and barreled down the slope toward the building.
Police and Fire Crews Respond to the Scene
Springfield police officers were called to the H.G. Hill Food Store on Memorial Boulevard to check on the crash just before 10 p.m., per wsmv.com. WSMV also reports that the woman was reportedly driving a white Ford F-150 down the alleyway from Willow Street to Hill Street when she lost control of the vehicle.
The impact tore open the store's rear wall, creating a hole large enough to see into the back of the building from outside, WSMV notes. The Springfield Police Department is handling the investigation, while the Springfield Fire Department responded to address safety concerns and hazards at the damaged structure, the same account from smokeybarn.com states.
Store Expected to Reopen Monday
Despite the damage, H.G. Hill Food Store representatives said the store expected to open for business as usual Monday. As first reported by WZTV, police continue investigating the crash as the community processes just how close the pickup came to plowing straight through a working grocery store.
