One man is dead and another has been taken into custody after a shooting in Pompano Beach, according to Broward Sheriff's Office deputies. Neither the victim who died nor the man in custody had been publicly identified as of publication, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

Deputies responded and located two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds, according to WSVN, which reported that one of the men was declared deceased at the scene while the other was treated for his injuries. The outlet placed the shooting in the 1500 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue late Friday evening. A separate account from CBS News described an overnight shooting that, per the Broward Sheriff's Office, left one man dead and another wounded along the same stretch of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

The shooting occurred on Northwest Seventh Avenue late Friday, close to midnight.

Investigation Still Underway

BSO Homicide and Crime Scene detectives are now investigating the incident, the station's report notes. No motive, weapon information, suspect charges, or update on the surviving victim's medical condition has been verified, and it remains unclear whether the man taken into custody has been charged or remains detained.

The shooting adds to a string of recent gun violence in the city. Just days earlier, authorities sought information about the 2022 fatal shooting of 29-year-old Travis Holloway, which occurred on May 21, 2022, according to Local 10. Another previously reported shooting near a Pompano Beach gas station, close to East Atlantic Boulevard and Northeast First Avenue, left a man described as still critical, per NBC 6 South Florida.

A Prior Double Shooting Case

Pompano Beach has seen fatal double shootings before. A March 2023 shooting left 23-year-old Joshua Moise and 24-year-old K-CI Octelus dead at an apartment complex near 300 SE 11th Avenue, according to CBS News. In that case, 19-year-old Neil Andrews was arrested and charged with manslaughter and removing a serial number from a firearm, and was later extradited from South Dakota and booked into the Broward County Sheriff's Office Main Jail, the outlet reported. The Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed on its own site that homicide detectives made an arrest in that double-fatal case.

No such arrest has been announced in connection with this latest shooting.
