A black Kia Forte riddled with 37 bullet holes. Two separate rifles. A 20-year-old mother dead and her boyfriend wounded. Five years after gunfire tore through Gabriella Gina Hanley's car on a Port St. Lucie roadway, police still have not charged anyone in her killing.
Port St. Lucie police responded to reports of multiple gunshots near Southeast Green River Parkway and Southeast Charleston Drive at about 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2021, according to CBS12. Other outlets reported differing response times for the same incident: WPBF put officials' arrival at 11:38 p.m., while WPTV reported that Hanley and her boyfriend were found shot around 11:30 p.m.
Hanley was driving south on Southeast Green River Parkway in the black Kia with her boyfriend, Darrick Mincey Jr., when another vehicle pulled alongside and fired multiple rounds into their car, per the CBS12 report. Investigators found the Kia had 37 bullet impacts, and forensic evidence indicated the bullets were fired from two separate rifles, the outlet's reporting states.
Life-Saving Efforts Came Too Late
Officers and rescue personnel began life-saving measures after finding Hanley with multiple gunshot wounds, the report notes. She was pronounced dead on Oct. 6, 2021. Mincey was also struck by gunfire but survived, according to the same account.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators zeroed in on a possible vehicle: a newer-model silver Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows, which WPBF identified as the possible vehicle of interest. On Oct. 15, 2021, WPTV reported investigators believed the Nissan Altima, a 2019 through 2021 model, had been rented between Oct. 4 and Oct. 7, though the vehicle was never located, per that station's reporting.
Three People of Interest, No Charges
Investigators identified three people of interest in 2021, but no charges were filed against them, the CBS12 article states. Police have been careful about how they characterize those individuals: WPTV reported that police said the three are not considered suspects, and no criminal charges have been filed against them. No one had been charged as of this report.
Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and examine forensic and digital evidence, according to CBS12's account. The case appears to have moved from an early focus on a specific vehicle and a trio of people of interest to a broader, ongoing review of forensic and digital material — the kind of methodical grind that defines cases that stretch across years without resolution.
Police Renew Public Appeal
Five years on, the Port St. Lucie Police Department is still seeking answers in Hanley's killing and is again asking the public for help. Anyone with information is asked to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at 772-871-5000 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477), per the CBS12 report.
What happened on Green River Parkway that night — who was in the car that pulled alongside Hanley and Mincey, and why two rifles were turned on them — remains unanswered. For now, the case sits where it has sat for years: open, unresolved, and dependent on someone coming forward with the piece investigators still need.
